“So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last.” John 8:7-9
Often, the loudest rebuke is the one from the inside of us. Because the motive of our heart cannot be concealed, and no one knows us better than we do ourselves. So, if we are convicted by our conscience, there is hope for us. “For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.” 1 John 3:20
Our conscience is the instrument used by the Holy Spirit to guide our soul. But the Holy Spirit will not force us to listen to it. It is our choice to listen to our conscience or ignore it.
Do you ever counsel yourself? If you had got into the habit of examining your life, listening to the voice of your conscience, and reconciling your heart with God, I believe you would not be where you are today.
Hebrews 10:22-23 – “Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.”
There is nothing more dangerous than a person with an unexamined life.
