“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
It is when your senses are still that your spirit awakes to your Creator. God revealed this to His Prophet Isaiah: “This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength…” Isaiah 30:15
In this world of constant activity and noise, many long for silence, for the peace of nature. However, even amidst serenity and peace on the outside, the storm often still rages within. Is there a storm raging within your heart? The storm of worry, anxiety, negative thoughts, anger, offense, fear and doubt? It is in the stillness of our soul that we can know God, not by our feelings but by faith.
That is the promise of belief. It is when we truly believe, that our hearts will be at rest. If you are still uneasy, unsettled, worrying and anxious within, know that you have not yet truly believed. In our daily challenges, we need to find enough calm to think clearly and react diligently.
How do we still our soul? By believing what God says. True believers must have determination not to listen to the panic of the moment – but to find the quiet voice of counsel and listen to what the Holy Spirit has to say concerning the matter. The first work of faith is to put a stop to our own work and to rest in God’s love, wisdom and power.
The same Jesus that commanded the winds and the waves to be still wants to calm the storm in your heart so you can be still within and know God.
“Lord Jesus, calm the storm in my heart, so that in the midst of my challenges, I can be still, still within, and know You.”
