Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its place.” Exodus 14:27

After the miraculous parting of the Red Sea, the Mighty Hand of God through Moses made the waters go back – making their deliverance from their captors complete and closing the door to their past, and they never went back to it.

It took God one night to deliver the Israelites physically from 400 years of captivity but it took 40 years to deliver their hearts from captivity. For some, they never let go. You may have stopped your bad habits on the outside but is your heart still yearning for them? If you have decided to follow Jesus and you mean it, don’t look back! Look to God alone. You cannot discover new oceans if you do not lose sight of the shore.

The Book of Hebrews 12:14-15 advises us to guard against turning back from the grace of God.  Remember Lots’s wife in Luke 17:32. Be focused on God.

God is a God of separation – He separated darkness from light. He separated the waters from dry land. He separated the seed of the Covenant of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob from their father’s house. When Jesus said in Matthew 10:34 that He came to bring a sword, He was saying that salvation is personal. It is a spiritual call. A call that goes beyond blood because the real thing about us is not our bodies but our spirit.

Do not allow anything or anyone to cause you to go back to your past because salvation is to be set free from sin and its penalties. Jesus wants to rescue you, redeem you and reconcile you to Him but you can still choose to reject Him. The Red Sea has been opened for you, but it is a narrow path. Only one way – that way is Jesus.

GOD FIRST

“Let’s take a lesson from David who was ready to be humiliated in his own eyes, so that God could be honoured. Ask yourself: Where does honouring God appear in your list of priorities? Do you thank Him for all that He has done in your life, all the way long? While men look at the outside, God looks at the motives of the heart. Instead of worrying about the opinion of others concerning you, let the motive of your heart each day be to honour God before yourself.”

THE SACRIFICE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

“There is no time to do what is right. We must set our heart to obey the Word of God, all the time. God’s kind of lifestyle calls us to do what is right in the sight of God at all times, even though it is contrary to what we naturally want to do. Choosing to do what is right is a great test to the flesh.

What is the sacrifice of righteousness? Choosing to do God’s will rather than our own. When our flesh says hate, God says love. It takes sacrificial love to love your enemy and to pray for them. These are the weapons of righteousness. This is the sacrifice that Jesus looks at and rewards. Even though that might not be a grand, or outward sacrifice, it is what Jesus values.”

LIFE ANEW

“When we talk of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, we are talking of the rare opportunity He has given to all believers to experience a new beginning – a situation in which every dead area of our lives receives life anew.

We are dead to our past and alive to our future. Sin’s power over us is broken and we now put on Christ’s new life: we live in Him, move in Him and have our being in Him. Herein lies the significance of resurrection.”
